I was inspired by my cyclical ginger obsession to experiment with some homemade ginger ale. I juiced some ginger, made a simple syrup, and experimented with some proportions. It was refreshing and ahem, mixed well with others.

In a quest to cut/limit sugar and in general eat a little healthier, I have been adapting my diet to be more paleo-esque. I don’t know that I could ever or would ever want to go totally paleo because I love cheese too much, but when I can cut a corner here and there and aspire to paleo-ness I like to do it. Typically, low-carb or paleo adaptations of things are good if you’re lucky but a far cry from the original item you know and love. I have to say that this is most definitely NOT the case with this banana bread!
I love me some wings! We have a turkey deep fryer that we used for Thanksgiving and since there is so much costly leftover oil, I keep it around and fire it up a few more times. Most of those coincide with football watching and fried finger foods. This was a deviation from classic buffalo or garlic parm which we have made before and as much as I love good ol hot buffalo I welcomed some new flavors. This recipe was cool since it uses fresh ingredients like ginger and garlic. I made it twice and achieved more of a thick sticky glaze the second time around and no dipping sauce was needed.
A simple idea that I gave a try and will regularly insert for a quick meal or snack idea. This would also be a great dish to take to a party. You could use store bought dough or a canister but I made the dough using the same pizza recipe as we used for previous pizzas (Thai Chicken, Tomato Mushroom Pesto, Grilled Crab Pesto) Continue reading
One of my favorite restaurants in the whole wide world used to be California Pizza Kitchen. I just loved it- I always, always got the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and the thai chicken pizza (on honey whole wheat crust!). When I find something I like at a restaurant, I am notorious for ordering it every single time I go back and this was no exception. As I have matured and my foodie-ness has grown in epic proportions, CPK just doesn’t have the same appeal it once did. That’s ok, it happens. However, every now and then I still get a taste for this uniquely delicious pizza and being the self-proclaimed foodies that we are, I suggested we try to make it ourselves. It turned out great and I encourage you to shake things up sometime and give this recipe a try.
Sorry for the gap in posts. Bizzy! These are basically crab cakes (here is a Spicy Cilantro and Green Onion Crab Cake) with salmon instead. A similar consistency, fairly similar taste, and a little cheaper than crab most of the time. We had been having a lot of salmon because of a sale at Wholey’s and this was a good way to switch it up a bit and maximize the fish.
I have made many a Mac n Cheese (Gruyere Broccoli, Almost Fire Version, Jalapeno Bacon) and it is probably the cornerstone of my culinary career. For Easter, it was requested that I make mac n cheese and I wanted to use the basic foundation and switch it up a bit so I added jalapeno which is an old and common friend, and introduced a new ingredient in pancetta.
